We thought it would be fun to show you the faces of the staff behind the scenes of Dunmow Group and what role they play for ensuring Dunmow Group are the number one leader for waste management.
What is your job role at Dunmow Group?
I'm Tony, I am the Health and Safety Manager and I am responsible for the H&S management across all four companies that make up the Dunmow Group. I have been with the group for just over 18 months. I currently visit each of the Dunmow sites on a weekly basis, completing daily safety walks as well as engaging with the team on-site to discuss any safety-related matters, I coach for site safety rules or relevant changes in safety legislation.
I have a national compliance and risk qualification (NCRQ) in applied health and safety along with my NEBOSH General certificate. I am also a technical member of IOSH and currently studying for my NCRQ diploma.
What is the best part of working for Dunmow Group?
Definitely the freedom to make positive changes to the safety culture within the Dunmow Group. I have introduced new safety ideas such as the QR code reporting system for safety concerns, as well as engaging with the team more regularly and ensuring they all have the right PPE to job their jobs safely. By implementing control measures and ensuring everyone is trained correctly, together we can reduce the risks of an accident and make the workplace a safer place for everyone.
What is the favourite part of your job?
Engaging with the staff is my favourite part. I love speaking to people each day sometimes a simple "how are you" can lead to staff telling you things that they may not have brought to your attention had you not taken the time out of your day to speak to them.
Can you explain Dunmow in three words?
Welcoming, driven and safe.
What is something that people don't know about you?
I am a qualified FA referee - this makes moaning at the referee much more enjoyable when you understand the laws of the game, especially when you know they are wrong!
What's your food heaven and hell?
My food heaven is a cheese and onion sandwich with a side of chips. My food hell is any kind of seafood... Just the smell...
What's the most unusual thing in your desk draw?
Bisto gravy. Just in case.
When you were younger, what did you want to be?
An accountant. I was always good with numbers and you never ever see a poor accountant! I always dreamed i'd one day own a Lotus Elise. Sadly, at 6'4 that car was never a good option and now I am the proud owner of a white ford ranger which could probably fit the lotus in the boot!
